Ai Tanaka, a Japanese tourist who went missing during a dive in Crystal Bay, Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali, on Sunday, was found dead on Monday evening.

“[Tanaka] was found at a depth of 43 meters below sea level,” National Search and Rescue Agency supervisor Putu Sudiana said, as quoted by kompas.com.

Tanaka was found still wearing the diving equipment, including the Buoyancy Compensator Device (BCD).

“Tanaka, who was new to diving, allegedly panicked and forgot to adjust the BCD,” Putu said.

Previously, the SAR team suspended its search for Tanaka on Monday evening. However, MM Dive, the operator of the dive site, insisted the search for Tanaka continue, and they eventually found his body.

After being removed from the sea, his body was then taken to the Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar.

Tanaka went diving with 13 Malaysian tourists on Sunday, and did not resurface. (swd)
